To me the Kleinunternehmerregelung only makes sense if you have private entities as customers that you feel are important for your business. You might have them when you establish your business, but the more you go forward in time and upward in income, you will end up with most of your customers being legal entities, which are eligible for pre-tax allowance anyway. If you take advantage of the Kleinunternehmerregelung, you are practically giving away money as you will need a new computer or office furniture or a car or whatever. And these things you will buy from companies charging Umsatzsteuer. And the worst: if you come close to the Umsatzsteuer limit, you can practically stop working until the following year. Because if you don't, the FA wants you to pay Umsatzsteuer for all the relevant invoices you issued that year. And that you will need to pay from out of your own pocket! And your customer won't be happy that you are not available for the rest of the year, which poses the risk of loosing this customer.
