(I have tried to correct the appalling English in which this was found. It would not surprise me to learn that the German is just as bad).
For those who want to learn another language, it's easy to learn German!
The German language is relatively easy. Thus say the professors of German in the first lesson.
Let's, for example, take a book in German... in this case, a magnificent volume, with hard cover, published in Dortmund, that tells us the usages and customs of the Hottentots (in German "Hottentotten"), originally South African, but some of whom now live in Australia. The book says that they capture kangaroos (Beutelratten) and place them in cages (Kotter), covered with a screen (Lattengitter) to protect them.
These cages, in German, are call "cages covered with a screen" (Lattengitterkotter), which if they have a kangaroo (Beutelratten) inside them, could be called Lattengitterkotterbeutelratten.
One day, a Hottentot arrested an assassin (Attentäter) alleged to have killed the mother (Mutter) of a Hottentot (Hottentottermutter), whose child a deaf and dumb boy (Stottertrottel).
This woman, thus, in German, is called Hottentottenstottertrottelmutter and his assassin we might well call a Hottentottenstottertrottelmutterattentäter.
They put him in a kangaroo cage (Beutelrattenlattengitterkotter).
But the prisoner escaped. After a search, a Hottentot warrior dashes up, crying:
- We have captured the assassin (Attentäter)!
- Which one? - asks the Chief.
- The Lattengitterkotterbeutelrattenattentäter - the warrior replies.
- What? The assassin who was in the kangaroo cage covered with a screen? - says the head of the Hottentots.
- Yes, - the Hottentottenstottertrottelmutteratentäter - answers the warrior - (murderer of the mother of the deaf and dumb boy ).
- Damn!! - the Chief says. - You could have said from the beginning that you had captured the Hottentottenstottertrottelmutterlattengitterkotterbeutelrattenattentäter
(murderer of the mother of the deaf and dumb boy who was in the kangaroo cage covered with a screen)!
Thus, through this example, we can see that the German is easy and simplifies things very much. You just need a little patience to learn it.
